Signing an agreement with the Sudanese National Council for Medical Specialties

On Monday, February 26, 2024, an agreement was signed between Alsharq University of Science and Technology and the Sudanese National Council for Medical Specialties. Representing the university, Dr. Mohammed Khair Al-Tijani, the university director, expressed his happiness with the agreement, highlighting its value as an addition to higher education institutions and the importance of combined efforts to support the council in delivering its services optimally. He noted the council’s significant role in overseeing all medical specialties and expressed hope for the completion of the Kassala branch to serve a large number of specialists.
Dr. Ibrahim Hamad Al-Neil, the Emergency Committee Secretary and Director of the Curriculum Department at the council, signed on behalf of the council and provided an overview of the council, which was established by presidential decree in 1995 to serve as the governing body for all medical and health specialties in Sudan. He explained that the council is the sole authority for postgraduate medical training, with more than 60 specialty boards, granting over 60 professional master’s degrees, clinical doctorates, and postdoctoral fellowships. The council has approximately 5,000 trainees and 10,000 graduates, with three advisory committees comprising experts in education, medicine, quality, and examinations, and a large advisory board responsible for approving all qualifications awarded to physicians.
Dr. Ibrahim mentioned that due to the war, the council’s headquarters moved from Khartoum to Al-Jazirah State and that Kassala was chosen as a new central location for Sudan. He announced that a permanent center would be established in Kassala in cooperation with the state’s Ministry of Health. He concluded by thanking the university administration for hosting and welcoming the agreement, with various university departments also expressing their enthusiasm for this partnership.
